Background:

Youth unemployment and food insecurity are two of the most serious threats facing Africa. They underline many other issues such as distress migration and conflict. The potential of agripreneurship in tackling youth unemployment and food insecurity in Africa is well documented. While there are many recent efforts on including entrepreneurship training in agriculture curricula, these efforts are limited by reach and scale. Youth still lack access to relevant business skills. To address this challenge, FAO is developing an online course on agripreneurship, targeting African youth, capitalizing on the increase of internet penetration in the continent. The course is scheduled to be launched by end of this year 2022. The course combines best entrepreneurship practices, with personal initiative training and the agri value chain approach. Initially, the course targets youth with access to internet but complimentary tracks to reach rural youth without internet access are planned.

Prior to putting the course online, in partnership with RUFORUM, the short-term impact of the course is being tested through training and mentorship of youth agripreneurs. This call for applications relates to the next round of training scheduled for May 2022.

Looking forward to hearing from you.
